I always have liked blogging, I don't know If you remember but I told you about ''Tumblr'' I do have a blog on that web page, it is more to share things that you like, for instance, photos or phrases that other people have shared in their blogs, but you can still share your own stuff. The experience in here was quite cool, I never imagined a class in this way so, in my opinion, it was quite interesting. Sometimes it was a wee bit difficult You know?  Have to write something in a language that you are not completely used to... Very fun though.  typing. In general, the topics were right... some of then more entertaining than others. The ones that I enjoyed the most typing were '' Why did I choose my career?'', ''Music. The BEST thing in life'' and ''Photography!'' Maybe because I was more used to talk about those things than the others... Anyways I had fun doing all the blogs. Music and books. I feel tha...

PCR.

Image
Hello everyone, Today I'm going to talk about a very important technique 'Polymerase Chain reaction' or PCR, it is used to amplify a copy of a segment of DNA in order to generate millions of copies of a particular DNA sequence. It was developed in 1963 by Kary Mullis. Kary Mullis. It has a huge importance in my career because this technique allows you to do research in many fields related to genes and ADN. For instance, some of its applications are gene cloning and manipulation, gene mutagenesis, construction of DNA-based phylogenies, diagnosis and monitoring of hereditary diseases. As you see you can work with this technique doing research on evolution, diseases, biotechnology etc. I chose this technique because I have always loved proteins, enzymes and all related to DNA; and this technique is based on a very important enzyme, The ''Polymerase''; the technique consists of a series of repeated temperature changes, first the temperatur...

THIS TERM IS ABOUT TO END! and I tell you about the subject that I like the most

Image
Titration. My favorite subject this term is Chemical Laboratory Techniques. This subject is composed of two modules, a normal class of theory and then practicing class. Usually a week before of going to the laboratory to have the practical class you have a previous class where they teach you the theory, you take notes about the process and they explain to you how you suppose to do them in the laboratory. Then, one week later you go to the laboratory to do those differents process that you have learned to do, for example, a distillation, dilution or a t itration etc... Distillation. I like being in the laboratory, get to practice or to do the process that I learned in the theoretical classes is an opportunity that I did not have in high school, so it's new and so interesting to me. Although sometimes it can be stressful and so complicated... sometimes you can get frustrated because you forgot to do something, or things just don't go well, ...

Rosalind Franklin

Image
Rosalind Franklin is the person that I admire. She was born the 25th of July 1920 in Notting Hill, London; and she died the 16th of April in 1958. She was an English Chemist who made very important contributions to the discovery of the DNA structure. She studied the Natural Sciences Tripos at Newnham College and she graduated in 1941. She is best known for her work on the X-ray diffraction images of  DNA, particularly photo 21 which led to the discovery of the actual double helix DNA structure (Made by Watson and Crick those who won a Nobel prize). Photo 21. She also worked in the understanding of structures of RNA, viruses, coal and graphite. Although her works in viruses and coal were appreciated in her lifetime, the DNA contribution was not.  I like her because I think that she was a very strong woman and an excellent scientist, without this picture that she got Watson and Crick would'not have created their model and all the things ...

Books & Films.

Image
Reading and Watching films are two of my favorites hobbies, I really enjoy doing those things. I remember that I learned how to read with the  'Silabario hispanoamericano', I used to call it 'Pa, pe, pi po ,pu' you will know why... In the latest pages of that book there was a lot of short stories and I liked them a lot, especially  'The greed' tells us about a boy who used to play marbles with his friends, but he wanted to have more than his friends, so He started buying marbles with the money that his parents gave to him to buy candies. He put all the marbles that he had in his pocket, but when he got home he realized that his pocket was Broken and there was not any marble left.                                                                                   There y...

Photography!

Image
Hi!  Photography is one of the things that I like to do the most, I think is amazing the way that you can express so many feelings with only an image. You can say a lot of things without saying any word. Photos bring good and bad memories... Cameras can capture the best of us, for instance: this image shows us a person helping a girl that does not have any shoes.  Although it can capture the worst of us as well, like in this picture of the explosion of the atomic bomb. Anyway, I like to think that we have more good memories that bad ones. As I said, I really like to take photos, so I am going to show some of the ones that I like the most, because they're so special to me, and that's the reason why I can not choose between them. Those are three photos taken by me, I like them because they bring memories of one of the best experiences that I have lived. They were taken in 2015 when I traveled to New Zealand,...

Music, The BEST thing in life .

Image
Hi, everyone!  I just can not imagine my life without music, It is a very important part of my life. As I have told you before, I studied in a music school, in there I learned a lot of things related to music, for example, I learned How to read music, how to play Flute and Piano etc. I spent most of my life there, so I got very close to classical music. That is my favorite kind of music, I just find it excellent, perfect! The chords, harmony, rhythm, melody and interpretation; all of them must be connected to create a beautiful sound. Sometimes when I go to a concert, I got really into the music, hearing the amazing notes, watching the people playing their instruments and that gives me goosebumps. I like quite a lot of instruments, they're all so interesting. I obviously like the Flute and the Piano because they are the instruments that I play, however, I also like the Cello because it has a wide range of sounds, the Oboe because it is so delicate and ...
