Why did I choose my career?
I think that chose what you're going to do 'for the rest of your life' is a very difficult decision. I remember that when I was a Child, like 9 years old I wanted to be a Doctor, I think that most of us have wanted to be a Doctor, you know, it's a very interesting career and always when you are sick you go to the hospital and see the Doctor so you're acquainted with what they do. I wanted to study medicine because I wanted to help people, to save lives.
But then I became a teenager and the people around me start to having emotional problems, so I thought that I could help people by giving them advice and trying to help them to find a solution for their emotional problems. Later I started knowing more stuff and I felt in love with biology, especially with the nervous system so I said to myself 'You may study psychiatry' so I went back to the beginning. Then I started to practicing more flute (as I was in a music school) and I enter into the conservatory of my hometown, so that made me think for a while about studying music, however, I noticed that although I really love music, it was not my passion.
I also really like reading, I used to save money just to buy an expensive book, so for a little time in my life I dreamed of becoming a writer, anyway I still loving the pleasure of reading a good book.

After a long time, I realized that I did not want to interact with many people, because people disappointed me, they don't care about others, the don't care about our environment, they don't care about anything, besides medicine, in my opinion, it's not to help people, it's to steal people, it's just all about the money, and I don't like it. So as I grew up I kept interacting with science and after a few experiences as a science camp, a volunteer work in an excavation etc. I decided to study a scientific career.

This is a photo of me in the science camp 'Chile va!'
And that one is a photo of me in the excavation.
But then the question was 'WHAT SHOULD I STUDY?
And after months and months AND MONTHS of doubts, there were just two careers to chose from, Biochemistry & Biotechnology. IT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT DECISION, they are so similar, and both are GREAT! So in the moment of the postulation, it was even more difficult because I could enter in both careers...SO!? What made me decide for BIOCHEMISTRY <3?
It took me a long time, but the syllabus of the career and the possibility of taking a graduate in biotechnology made me study biochemistry.
My experience at the university until now have been a wee bit difficult, but I have enjoyed myself making friends and studying. I thought it would be easier, but it is not, so that's why I'm trying to study harder.

I'm agree with you, most of medics don't even care about helping people and not sickness, and the money is all for them, but we can change this... maybe?
ReplyDeleteWow, we have a lot in common! I know that we took the best decision.
